The title of this trade very nearly read “The Cake”. I had the telephone in my hand and was about to dial the number to accept the offer of the cake when the email about the French Yurt holiday arrived.
It was no ordinary cake mind you. The offer arrived from “Russ BigMilf Milford” via facebook.
Hi Luke, My wife makes amazing cakes (see www.theposhcakeco.co.uk ) now! we are local people that want to make a genuine offer, the offer for the next trade is a Wedding cake to the value of £800
I love cakes. A lot. So this immediately took my fancy, even more than the offer of 50 bottles of prize winning homemade wine. However, if there is one thing I love as much as a good cake, it’s a yurt.
The French yurt holiday offer went like this
Her Outdoors would like to offer one week in a yurt in écovallée (excluding July August) this year or next in exchange for the metal thing. The metal thing to be: A snail-shell shaped frame for a solar shower, with holes every Xcm to attach wooden uprights for privacy. Unless it’s a crime, a 1p should be welded onto the inside of the frame somewhere. And to add a bit of connectivity, the winner of the yurt camp week should collect and deliver the metal thing (OPTIONAL).
Awesome – this is really cool. The ONLY problem with this is that whoever takes the trip to France has to deliver the metal item. This could be a downside!
How much does a Yurt holiday cost? Surely not £800 (which is what the cake was worth)? – Transportation cost for a large shower frame???
It’s ok, Delivery is optional! I already thought of that problem so I negotiated.
The cost of wedding cakes is debatable. I did a quick google search and found that most people only spend a few hundred pounds on a cake.
An awesome decision, in my opinion.
The cake was going to be a very special cake for someone who can’t afford an expensive cake, the untrained eye looks at a cake and see’s a cake, but many do not appreciate that all cakes made buy “The Posh Cake Co” are entirely edible ! If you see the wedding cake on my wifes website that has all the roses on it, that cake was valued buy another cake expert at £1100 purely on the amount of time it took to make, every rose was crafted buy individual petals and all edible !! The cake was a wedding present to my work mate but we would normally only charge £350 for that cake !! So not all cakes are the same !! Just thought I would add this for information only as I think a mistake was made on this trade, I’m not being bitter as I’m not like that, I just think our trade would of been easier to move on to the next trade !! Who knows…!! Anyway good luck with the project and we will keep watching 😉
I thought your cakes look great Russ, and like I said, I love cake! I’ve no doubt that your wife could make cakes that exceed the value of £800 either. What I meant by my previous comment was that it looked to me like most people budget less than £800 for a wedding cake and no doubt they have a more basic cake for there money. I could of course be wrong about this.
It wasn’t an easy decision to make, but there aren’t any wrong decisions in Project 1p, just different decisions. Thanks for your continued input and interest though.
Sorry I came over all defensive, that was not the issue of my post, we think it’s a great project and thank you for considering our offer so much, we wish you good luck for the future of the project 😉
This is AMAZING!!
I’m currently trying to think of things I can swap!!
Yes, do! All offers are considered. Is your name really Cherry Bakewell? (One of my favorite in the mr kipling collection!)
I wish it was really Cherry Bakewell!! I’ll swap your penny portrait for a years supply of Cherry Bakewells 😉
